Booking & appointments
How do I book an appointment?
The fastest way is online at blackhatbarber.com/booking, it takes about 30 seconds and you can choose your service and time. You can also call or text (440) 668-3236.
Does Black Hat Barber take walk-ins?
We strongly prefer appointments because the chair is owner-operated and we run on a precise schedule. If we have an opening when you stop by, we will absolutely take a walk-in, but the most reliable path is to book online.
How long does a straight-razor shave take?
Approximately 45 minutes when bundled into the full Cut, Beard & Razor service. A standalone straight-razor finish runs about 30 minutes. We never rush the prep, that is what separates a real shave from a quick line-up.

Services & what to expect
What is a hot-towel straight-razor shave?
A real hot-towel straight-razor shave is a multi-step traditional service: pre-shave oil, two hot towel wraps to soften the beard, brush-whipped lather, and a single straight-razor blade pulled across the skin (fresh disposable blade per client). It finishes with a cold towel and aftershave. It is not a clipper line-up. At Black Hat Barber it takes about 45 minutes when bundled with a haircut.
How long does a straight-razor shave take?
Approximately 30 minutes when bundled into the full Cut, Beard & Razor service. We never rush the prep, that is what separates a real shave from a quick line-up.
How often should men get a haircut?
For a sharp fade, every 2-3 weeks. For a tapered cut grown out as a softer style, every 4 weeks. For a longer scissor cut you want to maintain, every 5 weeks. Most Black Hat Barber regulars come in every 2-3 weeks.
What's the best fade for a man with a round face?
A higher fade lifts a round face vertically, a mid or high fade with a textured top is usually the most flattering. A skin fade with a longer top works particularly well. We will look at your hairline, head shape, and growth pattern together and pick the right fade height in the first two minutes of your appointment.
Do you offer wedding or groomsmen grooming packages?
We do, wedding-day shaves and groomsmen group bookings are available by appointment. Reach out to Ren directly to coordinate timing and group sizes.
Is Black Hat Barber a good barber for kids?
Yes, kids' haircuts (12 and under) are $30, run on a slightly slower clock than adult appointments, and we are happy to accommodate sensory-sensitive kids if you mention it when you book. Parents are welcome to stay in the chair area.
About Ren & Black Hat Barber
Who is Ren Faith?
Ren Faith is the master barber and owner of Black Hat Barber. She has 14 years of experience behind the chair, specializes in traditional straight-razor work, and has built Black Hat Barber into Willoughby's noir-aesthetic destination for precision men's grooming.
What's the difference between a barber and a hair salon?
A barber specializes in men's haircuts, skin fades, beard work, and traditional shaves, using clippers, scissors, and straight razors. A hair salon typically focuses on women's services, including coloring, balayage, and extensions. Black Hat Barber is the men's chair inside Roots Salon, so the building offers both.
What makes Black Hat Barber different from other local barbershops?
Black Hat Barber is owner-operated by a master barber (Ren Faith), specializes in traditional straight-razor work, and publishes transparent pricing, $35 cuts that compete with $50 shops on quality. Other shops in the area are good options at different points on the price/positioning curve, but the noir aesthetic, female-owned narrative, and straight-razor specialty are distinct to Black Hat Barber.
