About this service

Beard Trim. Willoughby, OH

A good beard trim is not the same as going through a beard with a guard. A good beard trim is a conversation about how the beard sits on your face, how you wear it day to day, if you use a product or have an interest in what products might be good for you, & a conversation about how often you should maintain it. With the Black Hat Barber, beard work is shaped to your jaw, your neckline, and the way you actually wear it, not to a Pinterest reference.

Every beard service ends with straight-razor detail on the cheek line. That single finishing pass is what separates an average trim from one you can feel for up to two weeks.

What to expect

The Process at Black Hat Barber

Master barber Ren Faith consulting with a client about beard shape at Black Hat Barber, downtown Willoughby Ohio

Consultation

Two-minute conversation about how you wear it, how often you shave the neck, and what you want to grow into. We'll also flag spots where the beard is filling in and adjust the line so we don't cut into them.

Shaping a beard with scissors and clippers at Black Hat Barber in downtown Willoughby

Shape & blend

Scissors and clippers work to shape the body of the beard. Most beards take a guard for length and free-handed scissor over comb for the corners.

Common questions

Beard Trim FAQ

Do I need a haircut to book a beard trim at Black Hat Barber?

No, a standalone beard trim is available. The $55 'Haircut + Beard' bundle is the most popular booking, but the trim on its own is a perfectly normal request, it is a $30 service. With a Straight Razor Hot Towel Shave it is bumped to a $40 service.

How often should I get my beard trimmed?

For a maintained shaped beard, every 2–3 weeks. For a "letting it grow" beard, every 4–5 weeks to keep the cheek and neck lines from getting wild while the body grows in.

Will you trim a beard on the longer side?

Yes. Long beards are some of the most rewarding work, scissor-over-comb to shape the body, then razor detail on the borders.
