About this service
Haircut. Willoughby, OH
A haircut service is the most-requested barbershop service with Ren. The line where the fade starts, the smoothness of the blend, and the way it sits when it grows out three weeks later, those are the differences between a $20 cut and a real one.
Black Hat Barber fades are built on classic technique: clipper-over-comb at the bottom, blended with smaller guards moving up, scissor work over the top to soften the transition, and straight-razor detail on the line. Every cut is custom, there is no shop "default."
What to expect
The Process at Black Hat Barber

Want a fade? Pick the fade height
Low, mid, high, or skin. Low fades start at the temple line; high fades start above it. If you are not sure, we will look at your hairline together and pick what matches.

Build the bottom
Clipper work bottom up. Skin fades go down to bare; mid and low fades stop with a one-guard or zero plus the skin level you're comfortable with.

Blend the transition
This is the part that takes the time. Smaller guards working up, blended with scissors over comb until the line disappears.

Top scissor work
However the top wants to live, textured, slick, swept. We work with the cowlick instead of fighting it.

Razor line-up
Sideburns, neck, and the temple line cleaned with a straight razor. No clipper line-up shortcuts.

Common questions
Fade Haircut FAQ
What is the difference between a low, mid, high, and skin fade?
The "fade height" describes where the line starts. A low fade starts at the temple. A mid fade starts about a finger-width above. A high fade is roughly at the parietal ridge. "Skin" describes the bottom, a skin fade goes all the way to bare skin at the bottom regardless of where it starts.
Do I need to know what haircut I want before I book?
No. Most clients book by service ($35 haircut) and we figure out the fade type together in the first two minutes. Bring a reference photo if you have one, that's the fastest & easiest way.
How often do I need to come back for maintenance?
Every 2–3 weeks if you want the fade line crisp. Every 4 weeks if you let it grow into a softer taper. We can plan it either way. We can also pre-book your next appointment at check out!
Can I add a beard trim to my haircut?
Yes, the $55 "Haircut + Beard" service is the most common booking. Adding a straight-razor finish brings it to $60.
